Say Hello to Linda Bennett Pennell

Featuring Linda Bennett Pennell...

Who's Linda?

"I have been in love with the past for as long as I can remember," Pennell tells us. "Anything with a history, whether shabby or majestic, recent or ancient, instantly draws me in. I suppose it comes from being part of a large extended family that spanned several generations. Long summer afternoons on my grandmother's porch or winter evenings gathered around her fireplace were filled with stories both entertaining and poignant. Of course being set in the American South, those stories were also peopled by some very interesting characters, some of whom have found their way into my work.

"As for my venture in writing, it has allowed me to reinvent myself. We humans are truly multifaceted creatures, but unfortunately, we tend to sort and categorize each other into neat, easily understood packages that rarely reveal the whole person. Perhaps you, too, want to step out of the box in which you find yourself. I encourage you to look at the possibilities and imagine. Be filled with childlike wonder in your mental wanderings. Envision what might be, not simply what is. Let us never forget, all good fiction begins when someone says to her or himself, "Let's pretend." "

Pennell resides in the Houston area with one sweet husband and one adorable German Shorthaired Pointer, who is quite certain she’s a little girl. Her favorite quote regarding her professional passion:  "History is filled with the sound of silken slippers going downstairs and wooden shoes coming up." Voltaire

That said, Linda shows that she is very multifaceted. "Casablanca: Appointment at Dawn" is one example of her multidimensional persona. Other than her love of the past, she obviously loves the written word, but she can sure pen it. Here's a little about "Casablanca: Appointment at Dawn":

Sarah Barrett, U.S. Army R.N., is finished with wartime romance. Determined to protect her recently broken heart, she throws all of her time and energy into caring for her patients, but when she is given a coded message by a mysterious dying civilian, she is sucked into a vortex of danger and intrigue that threatens her very survival. The one person who can help Sarah is Kurt Heinz, a man with too many secrets to be trusted.

Pennell gives us a taste or two of this novel:

Excerpt I

Kurt watched in dismay as the man in gray picked up his fedora and rose from the table next to the one recently vacated by the two women. This had to be his contact. The man had watched Kurt on the sly since he arrived at the restaurant. Moreover, the guy matched the description right down to the red pocket square in his suit breast pocket and the thin, pale scar running along his left jawline. Making a quick decision, Kurt pushed his chair back and tossed some cash on the table.
"It's been interesting guys, but I'm calling it a night. Use this to cover my tab."
"What's the rush, Heinz? We haven't even ordered dinner."
"I guess my sins are catching up with me. It's return to quarters and bed for me."
"You headed back with us on the return flight tomorrow?"
"Nope, I'm here with the Old Man for the duration. You boys have a good trip."
The street was nearly deserted when Kurt stepped out onto its glistening concrete surface. Misty rain created halos around the sparse street lamps and obscured most objects more than a few feet distant. Only the two women, Sarah and Agnes, stood under an umbrella waiting for a taxi. Kurt watched them from the restaurant's portico. Focused on their conversation, they seemed oblivious to anyone behind them.
Glancing to his right, Kurt saw his man in gray scurrying toward the cross street. He stepped onto the sidewalk and crept along a good twenty paces behind. When his quarry slowed at the corner and looked back over his shoulder, Kurt stepped into the shadow of a doorway behind the taxi stand and waited. If this guy didn't want to make contact, he wouldn't appreciate being followed.

Excerpt II

“I’m Heinz. What do you want?”
“Oh. It’s you.”
“Yeah?”
“From the restaurant on New Year’s Eve.”
Kurt was silent for a moment, then it came back tohim. “I remember. Sarah, right? You’re the girl who refused to dance with me.”
A red flush crawled from her throat onto the apples of her cheeks. “Yes. I’m sorry if I was rude.”
“I’ve been cut dead before. I got over it.”
The girl’s eyes glittered. “I’m sure you did. Are you going to keep me standing here on the doorstep for everyone to see?”
“Why? I’m not expecting company. Would it be a problem?”
“It certainly might if the people who tore my apartment apart followed me here.”
Kurt looked into her eyes with complete attention for the first time since opening the door. Whatever had happened to this girl, she looked terrified and angry.
Not a particularly good combination for the covert activities he and Phelps were up to.
Kurt made a quick decision. He stepped back and pulled the door wide while raising his voice. “You better come inside and tell me why you think what happened to your apartment has anything to do with me.”
When they stepped into the living area, Phelps had disappeared. Kurt gestured toward the sofa and the girl sat down.
Propping himself on the sofa’s arm, he looked down into her frightened eyes.
“Now tell me how I can help you, Miss, uh…”
“Barrett, Sarah. US Army. RN.”
“Well, Nurse Barrett, what can I do for you?”
The girl stuck her hand in her coat pocket and whipped out a scrap of paper that she waved in his face.
“By telling me what’s on this paper and why it’s so important that somebody took a knife to my furniture.”

AWESOME SALE! ON Angela Hayes's novel "Love's Battle"

Author Angela Hayes is running an awesome sale. From July 17-July 31, 2015 only,
Angela is selling "Love's Battle" for ONLY 99¢.

A married mother of two, Angela splits her time between bringing characters to life by computer, and yarn to life with needle and hook. You can find her at www.authorangelahayes.blogspot.com where I help connect readers and the authors they love.

“If love isn’t worth fighting for, what is?”

Love Howard has more than a knack for matchmaking. Born from a forbidden passion and a twelve-hundred-year-old promise, she and her sisters can literally see true love. And while Love has no problem bringing other couples together, her own romantic life could use a little help.

Danton DeAngelo has always been well grounded in reality. So it throws him for no small loop when the woman he’s fallen for believes that she’s been reincarnated eleven times and can actually see true love.

Now Danton is faced with the biggest decision of his life. Accept Love for who she really is, or walk away from her forever.

Here's a bit out "Love's Battle":

EXCERPT

“That was close,” I breathed when we were outside, an entire building between myself and the best man.
“It’s about to get even closer.” Faith smiled, making me instantly wary. I knew what was coming. She’d seen it. They both had.
“What do you mean?” I asked, playing dumb.
“Look at him again, and you tell us,” Hope challenged.
Dutifully I opened the door. Keeping to the shadows, I stepped inside, just enough to get another look at Danton DeAngelo. There he was laughing with his friends, what a beautiful sight. Male perfection bathed in the same powder blue light that all souls gave off when they were destined to be together. Blowing out a breath, I closed the door and faced my sisters.
            “He’s blue.”
“He’s not the only one, honey.” Hope smiled, holding out a compact mirror she had pulled from her purse.
Snatching it from her, I peered into the reflecting glass. There was my image, the one I’d spent twenty five years looking at, the one I saw mirrored in the face of my sisters. Except, unlike yesterday, I could now see a telltale blue glow around my face. Faint at first but growing stronger with every second. Closing the compact I could see the glow encompassing my hands. I looked down and around. Like a bad rash, it was all over me.
“I’m blue!” I declared, pointing out the obvious.
“True blue, true love. YOU are the future Mrs.Danton DeAngelo.” Hope gloated taking her compact back.
            “Ah damn!” I whined.

Where you can get for only 99¢

Today I bring to you...

Sydney St. Claire

You may know her as Susan Edwards, but no matter what you call her by name, her fans call her wonderful.

Sydney is the author of 14 Historical Native American/ Western/Paranormal romances and the author of the popular White Series.

She loves writing and sharing stories of love, happiness, and dreams come true with her readers. She credits her mother for her writing success. Encouraged to read as a child, she always preferred happy endings which meant romances were her favorite genre. Sydney takes her readers into the world of erotica romance where her characters come together in explosive passion as they solve life’s problems and find true love along with the best sex our hero and heroine have ever experienced.

Sydney’s office is quite crowded with three dogs at her feet and five cats to keep her company while she writes. Three cats always insist on beds on her desk, barely leaving enough room for her monitor and keyboard. Life gets fun when all five insist on supervising.

When not writing, she enjoys crafts of all sorts including quilting, sewing, cross-stitch, and knitting. She and her husband of 30+ years are avid gardeners. He takes care of the veggies and Susan is in charge of the ‘pretties’. Her medicine wheel garden is in a contact state of war: flowers vs. weeds. Sadly, right now the weeds are wining.

While writing, she listens to a wide variety of music. Her current favorites are Blackmore’s Night and David Lanz.

But what of her latest work? Sydney is sharing with her readers and fans "Red & Her Big Bad Dom." Here's a little about the book:

Wealthy computer genius Graham Winters is in love with a woman who won’t join him for a stingy cup of coffee. How can he prove he’s nothing like her jerk of an ex if she won’t give him a chance? Then he spots her at a BDSM club and devises a plan. During the day, he’s “that damn geek.” At night, he’s the masked Dom known as The Wolf.

When it comes to her love life, Lucy Sanchez has one rule—no geeks. Not even rich, good looking geeks. She’s attracted to Graham but rules are rules. Besides, she has her wolf, the mysterious Dom who makes her blood sing. Then she’s invited to a fairytale event at Pleasure Manor and this Little Red Riding Hood plans to enjoy every delicious moment with her big, bad Dom.

Sydney offers up an excerpt so you get a little taste:

Excerpt; pg 13
“I’m taking you to dinner tonight. In the city.” He sat on her desk, which she now found endearing rather than annoying.
She set her purse into an empty cabinet and lifted a brow. “You’re telling me?”
He shrugged. “If I ask, you’ll say no.”
“I have plans.” With The Wolf.
He tipped her chin up. “Cancel them.” His lips brushed hers, then he deepened the kiss.
Lucy’s insides clenched at the feel of his warm mouth against hers and the taste of coffee with a hint of caramel, his favorite kind. She closed her eyes, her lips moving with his. His tongue dipped into her mouth, and she moaned, leaning into him.
Then he broke the kiss and walked away.
Lucy gaped at him. Her insides melted, and that familiar longing zeroed in on her center and pooled between her legs. Damn. She was attracted to her geek. Very attracted. Too bad he wasn’t her wolf. Now, if Graham were as good as her wolf in bed, she’d have found the perfect man.
She sighed. Yep, too bad. So what now? Two dates, two men equaled complications.
Her lips turned downward tightly as she got to work. She loved her wolf-lover, but their relationship was not completely satisfying or fulfilling. Not rounded and balanced. Graham, on the other hand, was open. She knew who he was, shared many common interests, and most of all, Graham didn’t have any secrets. What she saw was what she got with him. In a way, she preferred that to the mysterious and secretive.
“All right,” she said.
Graham glanced up, his eyes unfocused. “Huh?”
Realizing three hours had passed, and he was totally immersed in Geekland, Lucy wadded up a sheet of paper and tossed it at him. “Come back to earth, Graham. Dinner. Date. You. Me.”
His eyes cleared, and a huge grin lit his entire face. His blue eyes shone with pleasure. “Great.”
His smile slipped into a frown when she stretched her arms and back. “You tired? Need to stop?”
“Yeah, need to cancel my plans for tonight and stretch my legs. Want to walk outside with me?” His grounds were beautiful. Calm and restful with formal groupings, waterfalls, and a small forest that reminded her of the woods surrounding Bryce’s mansion, the woods where she and her wolf had played and strolled. She shook off the memories.
“Give me ten. You can go explore the house if you want. I forgot to give you the tour.” He grinned. “My bedroom is up the stairs, straight ahead.”
Lucy had been dying to see the rest of the house, and yes, that included the man’s bedroom, but she rolled her eyes for good form. Didn’t want him to know how eager she’d been to see the upstairs. “Okay. Twisted my arm.”

Excerpt; pg 13
Lucy admitted there was something totally naughty and sensual in not knowing what her big, bad, wolf looked like. He was her mystery man, and he understood her. He got her, and not just with the sex, although the sex was out of this world fantastic.
They had so many things in common, like dancing. Bryce’s mansion had a real ballroom, and she had a fabulous gown for the ball. She and her wolf would heat up the dance floor.
“What are you thinking?”
Smiling, Lucy stared into his piercing blue eyes. “Saturday night.”
“Ah. We’ll dance the night away, you and I.”
His slight accented voice hummed through her. “I love dancing with you.”
He pulled her on top of him. “I bet we can sneak into the ballroom tomorrow. Want to dance tonight, out here, under the moonlight?”
Lucy cupped his face in her hands and kissed him. “Very much so.”
“Then we’ll dance here after our scene.”
She wrinkled her nose. “I’m not so sure I’m going to like being watched”
“You trust me.” It wasn’t a question but a quiet statement.
Lucy nodded. He knew her better than she knew herself. “It seems—wrong—yet the idea of being spied on turns me on.”
He grinned. “No, it’s naughty, and you, my sweet sub, love being naughty.”
Rolling her eyes, she admitted he was right. “Yeah, I do. Okay, I’m game.”
“Good girl.” He rolled her over, held her hands above her head, and swooped in for a deep, drugging kiss.

She's running a contest, so you might want to get in on it.
